The Practical Impact of the Obamacare Decision in 100 Words

The Supreme Court’s decision means that the Affordable Care Act will be implemented (unless Republicans repeal it next year). That is about it. The Supreme Court did not license a tyrannical government, destroy federalism or eliminate individuals’ rights. Remember that this is a conservative court. The practical effect of the decision on our system of government is very minor.

In 2014, everyone will have to buy insurance or pay an extra tax. Most people will still buy insurance from private companies, not the government. Those companies just won’t be able to charge higher premiums based on gender, obesity or preexisting conditions.  More information here.
